Back on October 1, I seen the cutest backdrop that Mama Elephant had shared on Instagram and I had to try and recreate it. The party fans/medallions/rosettes (whatever you want to call them) are available to purchase through My Mind's Eye, but why would I want to spend $25 when I could just make them right? ugh! Although they weren't that hard to make, it was time consuming.
But I think it was worth it :D
I found this video on YouTube to learn how to make the medallions and ended up making 12 of them.
Two 17" (using six pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 paper for each)
Four 8" (using one piece of 12x12 paper cut into thirds (three 4x12 strips) for each)
Six 12" (using two pieces of 12x12 paper cut in half (four 6x12 strips) for each)
I fastened them by using clear nylon thread and safety pins (you can't even see the strings in the photo). But I think it might have been better if I had hot glued pin backings to the the medallions.
At first we were just going to hang our backdrop somehow in the Joann classroom, but then I was browsing Pinterest (so dangerous) and seen Photo Booth backdrops made out of PVC pipe...I asked my husband if he would help me make one. It wasn't hard at all.
We went to Lowes and it cost only $17 to make. You will need the following:
Six 5 feet pipe
Two 90 degree elbows
4 tee connectors
4 caps
Four of the 5 feet pipes can be left as is, but 2 will need to be cut into 3 pieces (2 feet, 2 feet, and 1 foot). Lowes (or Home Depot) will cut them for you for free.
Please be sure that you buy the correct connectors. You will need unthreaded and the size to match the pipe you bought. We bought 3/4" pipe, so all the connectors were 3/4".
Hopefully the photos will help you to put it together since I don't think I can explain it.
The backdrop is just a black King size flat sheet from Target. I had to remove the stitching from the sides of the top of the sheet so it would slide through the top pipe.
And ta da! Now we can use the photo booth backdrop/frame over and over again!
I also made the "Cheers Witches" banner. The pennants were cut using my Silhouette (I think I found a svg for free online). Then I purchased a "Drink up Witches" cut from the Silhouette Design Store. I tweaked it a bit so I cut out Witches as is but I cut another C, H, S, two more E's, and the R from "drink". It was hung up with twine.
Another must have are photo booth props. I found these signs to print then cut the paper using my silhouette.
I was so excited to get this together--even the time consuming medallions.
